The Holm Family Biography |
Holm Town Nursery Inc. is Fairbanks’ premier garden center. The greenhouse and nursery began as a small greenhouse operation in 1992. Holm Town was the dream of Jim and Marcia Holm and their daughter, Denyse Moberly. Jim was raised on a local farm in Fairbanks. Founded in 1946, the Holm family farm, located at 3 mile Chena Hot Springs Road, grew from a humble homestead. John, Edith, and their sons Stuart and Jim, created a large truck farm, eventually raising 100 acres of potatoes and 20 acres of cabbage yearly. On the farm many other crops, fruits, trees, shrubs and perennials were tested and grown for the Fairbanks market. In 1959 the family farm was sold and Northern Lights Nursery was opened on College road. The Holm family operated it until it was closed in 1989. Over the past 18 years, Holm Town has grown to employ nearly 40 people during the peak season. In 2009, after extensive research, we decided to do a major remodel of our growing facility and retail space. Today we have 60,000 sq ft of greenhouses with a beautiful 10,000 sq ft, year-round, energy efficient retail store. The new area has allowed Holm Town Nursery to offer an extended line of gifts, garden art, fountains, hydroponics, as well as the wonderful, tasty offerings from the warm and cozy Petunia’s Bistro. As one customer said; “I come here for a mood enhancer, the feel of Hawaii in Fairbanks.” We thank you for your past support and pledge to continue striving to provide the finest quality services that we can in the future.
